two hurricanes, an anniversary, a birthday, and two invalids

Somehow, Bill and I managed to plan our wedding right smack dab in the middle of hurricane season. Last year, thankfully, this didn't pose a problem. This year has been a different story:

Late in coming, this hurricane season has been active, especially, it seems, in the weeks surrounding significant events in our lives. Gustave decided to make his appearance on our one year anniversary. Thankfully, for us, he veered left, and significantly weakened, so that all we had to contend with was strong gusts of wind and lots of rain, allowing us to safely survive the storm, but keeping us from venturing out.
We, therefore, spent the day inside watching the extended version of The Fellowship of the Ring and The Two Towers, and eating the top layer of our wedding cake, which thanks to my mother's excellent packaging craft, tasted as scrumptious as it did on our wedding day.

Today, Bill's 32nd Birthday, Ike was originally supposed to hit the Gulf Coast, with our area of the Panhandle being the center of the action. Once again, thankfully for us, we were spared, though Ike is still in the gulf, he is headed toward Texas, and will hopefully not cause too much damage.

But, today we are spending inside as well. Bill got off work last night with a terrible cold, and I have the makings of a persistent sinus infection. So today we are staying curled up on the couch with lots of tissues, hot tea, and soup, watching the extended Return of the King - thanks Mom and Dad Clifton for this wonderful Christmas present that has started a tradition we may continue throughout the years.
